$35 Million Moose Jaw Overpass Project Nears Completion
CANADA, September 25 - Released on September 24, 2026
Today, Highways Minister Kim Gartner announced an estimated $35 million project to raise the height of the Highway 2 over Highway 1 overpass at Moose Jaw is near the finish line.
"Highway 1 is one of Saskatchewan's most important trade corridors, and this $35 million investment will help move people and goods more safely and efficiently through the Moose Jaw area," Gartner said. "As this project nears completion, we thank motorists for their patience and our construction crews for their work delivering an important improvement to Saskatchewan's transportation network."
The overpass project has seen the demolition of a previous pair of about 60-year-old Highway 2 over Highway 1 bridges, which were built with a clearance height of 4.5 metres. To safely accommodate construction, the clearance height has been reduced to 4.2 metres with signs warning motorists in advance and the Highway Hotline updated.
In addition to replacing the aging bridges, the project includes the conversion of the former cloverleaf interchange to a modern diamond interchange. The new design improves traffic flow, reduces maintenance requirements and enhances overall safety for motorists travelling through the intersection.

Work remaining on the project includes final paving, fine grading and site restoration. The entire project is targeted to be completed by around mid-October, pending weather. All traffic will then resume to normal operations and the new overpass clearance height of 5.3 metres will take effect.
The Highway 2 over Highway 1 overpass serves as a critical connection for commercial traffic, agricultural producers, commuters and travelers moving through Saskatchewan. The completed project will help improve the safety, reliability and efficiency of the provincial transportation network for years to come.
Other key provincial highway projects in the region includes:
Highway 2 north of Assiniboia - An estimated $13 million Highway 2 project between Assiniboia and Ardill will see more than 41 km resurfaced and 12 culverts installed. The project began earlier this year and is expected to be completed this fall.
Highway 13 in Ogema area - An estimated $11.5 million Highway 13 project will see more than 25 km repaved, including the access roads into both Pangman and Ogema. Gravel crushing for the project began in early July with road work underway later that same month. The entire project is expected to be completed by late fall.
Highway 1 east of Moose Jaw to Regina - An estimated $3.4 million investment will see more than 36 km of pavement preservation work on Highway 1. A seal coat was completed in May. Micro-surfacing is underway and expected to be completed in September.
Motorists are reminded to check the Highway Hotline for updates.
With this year's budget, the Government of Saskatchewan has invested more than $14.6 billion in transportation infrastructure since 2008, improving more than 22,700 kilometres of highways across the province.
