Saskatchewan Celebrates Community Inclusion Month

CANADA, October 2 - Released on October 2, 2026

The Government of Saskatchewan has proclaimed October 2026 as Community Inclusion Month, recognizing the strengths, contributions and achievements of people with disabilities and the difference inclusive communities make across the province. The month celebrates the families, advocates, employers and community organizations helping create opportunities for people of all abilities.

"When people with intellectual disabilities can contribute and succeed, everyone benefits," Social Services Minister Terry Jenson said. "Through our ongoing partnership with Inclusion Saskatchewan, we support initiatives that strengthen person-centred services and create meaningful opportunities for individuals to reach their full potential."

For nearly 70 years, Inclusion Saskatchewan has worked with people with intellectual disabilities, their families and communities to advance inclusion across the province. Through advocacy, education, employment supports and community-based programs, Inclusion Saskatchewan helps create opportunities for people to participate fully in social, economic, and community life.

"Through our work, led by people with lived experience, we aim to build and inspire a province where everyone is empowered to thrive and has the opportunity to contribute," Inclusion Saskatchewan CEO Christina Martens-Funk said. "We work alongside people with intellectual disabilities, but the benefits of inclusion extend far beyond those with disabilities. All members of a community gain from having diverse cooperative spaces to learn, work, and grow."

Throughout October, Inclusion Saskatchewan and its local branches will host events and celebrations across the province to recognize the contributions of people with disabilities and highlight the importance of accessible communities.
